About Mountain Meadow: History and Mission

Mountain Meadow was founded in 1981 by a feminist rabbi named Julie Greenberg as a summer camp for girls with lesbian mothers. The camp went co-ed in 1992 and began offering year-round programming in 2005 from its center-city offices within the William Way Community Center . Starting with just 6 kids in a back yard, Mountain Meadow's programs and participants have expanded steadily over the years - now serving consistently over 100 youth each year.

As our programs evolved from summer/recreational in nature to year-round networking, advocacy, empowerment and leadership-building, so has Mountain Meadow's mission:

To help youth from unconventional families and their allies succeed in school and in daily life.
